Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration

tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire

access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.

At Canobolas Public School, we recognise and support high potential across the intellectual, creative, social-emotional and physical domains. Students are provided with opportunities for extension and enrichment both within the classroom and through a broad range of programs, competitions and experiences.

Intellectual

Students are encouraged to think deeply, solve problems and pursue areas of strength and interest through:

APSMO Maths Olympiad and mathematical problem-solving
ICAS competitions
Debating and CWA Public Speaking
Chess Club
Robotics Club
Extension and enrichment projects

Creative

Students have opportunities to develop their talents across music, performance, communication and the arts through:

School Band, rehearsing weekly with a specialist music teacher
Violin lessons with a specialist violin teacher
Our annual whole-school concert
Canobolas Cast, our student podcast, where students research guests and topics, develop questions and conduct interviews
Regular visits to the Orange Civic Theatre to experience live productions
Musica Viva and other visiting musical performers and incursions
UpStage performance experiences
Annual visits to the Orange Regional Gallery and Orange Regional Museum

Students are encouraged to develop leadership, confidence, independence and responsibility.

Our Year 6 students take an active leadership role within the school, including running assemblies and leading sporting activities and tabloids.

Students in Years 3–6 also participate in overnight excursions, including trips to Sydney and Canberra, providing opportunities to develop independence, resilience and collaboration.

Physical

Students with strengths and interests in sport have access to a range of development and representative opportunities, including:

PSSA representative sport and pathways to higher levels of competition
Knockout and representative sporting teams
Combined sporting opportunities with Nashdale Public School through OSSA Green
Swimming, cross country and athletics representative pathways
School tennis lessons
After-school basketball
Opportunities to trial and compete across a broad range of individual and team sports
